THE STORY--is told of three elderly
spinster sisters who lived together. As one straddled the tub for her evening bath, she
yelled to the others, "Was I getting in the tub or out?" The second sister,
pausing half-way up the stairway, thought for a moment, then called to the other two,
"Was I going up or down the stairs?" Exasperated, the third sister, in the
kitchen, said to herself, "I hope I never get as forgetful as those two..."
Then, taking her hand and knocking on the counter said, "knock on wood." Hearing
the sound of her own knocking, she called to her sisters, "Would someone please get
the door!?"
Will Rogers once said, "We don't
need to be taught a lot, we just need to be reminded a lot."How often we need, not to
be taught, but reminded. So Peter reminds his readers to "never forget these
important things": Jesus is coming back (v. 16); He is God's son (v. 17); God is
sovereign (v. 18)and His Word is certain (v. 19).
Remembering these truths, today, may
help us stand a little taller, stay a little firmer, and stride a little straighter.
Remember not to forget.
