After experiencing brain surgery,
suffering a stroke, total paralysis, heart failure, double pneumonia, three
weeks in a coma, and the death of a wonderful husband, I can still thank God
every day for the many blessings he has given me. Oh yes, I have many moments
when I get depressed, and feel like giving up, but with the help of God and my
Christian friends I start counting my blessings. I realize that sickness and
tragedy can teach us to "bear our cross". God will help us bear our pain and
sorrow.
A beautiful poem written by Joyce
Johnson tells us God's tenderness can be found in the intricate wings of a beautiful
butterfly. His voice can be heard through the singing of the birds. You can feel God's
love through the loving smile of a friend or the words of kindness spoken with sympathy by
someone you love. You can even touch God by touching the beautiful flowers. Most of all
you walk with God through prayer, asking His guidance to carry you through the day and by
speaking a word of encouragement to a troubled soul and giving your time to a lonely
heart.
Life is full of changes. Some are good
and some are bad. We must remember "all things work together for good for those who
love God." Rom. 8:28. I would love for you to join me in counting our blessings with
love in our hearts and we will grow stronger in faith together. Remember "we can do
all things through Him who strengthens us." Phil. 4:13.
